Got a couple of the wheels done. The finish is pretty bad because I used poundland paint, which no matter how well you prep it contracts and leaves cracking on the surface. Still an improvement over the plastic caps though and I can easily redo the top coat whenever with better quality paint.

Very nice, I love the look. More people need steelie pride, the plastic covers always look awful.

Thanks, yeah the covers never look good, even plain black steelies would be an improvement.

Looks good with white steel wheels.
I wish they still put these steel wheels on Ford Focus's.
Took the trim off a friends Mk2 Focus to clean the wheel surface and behind the trim and spent the next half hour trying to convince him to leave the trims off.
If only all steel wheels looked this good.

Thanks it's definitely an improvement.
I think Vauxhall used similar steel wheels to those Focus ones for a while, not sure if they still do.

My girlfriend's the same. I'm just keeping mine in the garage and I'll put them back on when I sell it.

I think the Focus ones look great. People spend a fortune on alloys that look similar and Ford throw steel ones in for free and cover them up.
Are you going to add white accents to the car? You were looking at the semi-checkered strips recently, anything to go with them?

No lowering for me, I've already scuffed the front bumper once... It would look better though.

Indeed, this car needs to stay practical and sensible. When I start earning I'll get something like a beaten up MX5 (Miata) as a weekend car I can do whatever I want with.

About 5 different ones. Really coarse stuff to remove the rust, 400 grit wet and dry for finishing.

Yeah they do look good, I've seen uglier alloys.
I'm thinking of going with white stripes and white mirror caps.

I think that'll look great. Little accents that aren't too much.
Its when they are over done like when people put chrome all over things and you want to check if the owner is in fact a magpie or a human.
Your car shampoos were posted yesterday fella. I put in a note about products and there uses but any issues or questions just ask.

Ok thanks, I plan to do the same on my full steel wheels for the BX (not in white but in "Citroen grey" like the 2cv) :

Yeah I dont want to go too far with it, just add a little character and make it mine. I did find some damage I didnt know was there while changing the wheels which was a bit of a downer. A scuff and very slight dent on the lower three quarter that's primer deep at a couple of points. Think I'm going to get it repaired.
You posted them? I didnt know I had my address up on here.

Ah okay. I got a pretty poor finish with my wheels so I might not be the best person to give advice haha. The only advice I can give is don't use bargain basement paint, it isn't very good...

Some slight cosmetic damage is to be expected but always a downer when you see it.
I may be mixing you with someone else near me then. I take it you're not Alex?

I don't expect a good finish. I just want to make these wheel look a bit more decent.
I will use Ironlak spray can, for the first time, and see how well it perform.
